Nicholas Chamberlaine School, Warwickshire

Nicholas Chamberlaine School, Bedworth, Warwickshire joined MiSST in September 2019.

There are currently 750 students on the Andrew Lloyd Webber Programme learning violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet, tenor horn, trombone, euphonium.Nicholas Chamberlaine works in partnership with the Warwickshire Music Hub to deliver high quality MiSST lessons to our students from dedicated instrument specialists. The undoubted highlights of our musical year are the orchestral workshops which are held at least twice a year for every single student on the MiSST programme. This involves creating a multi instrumental orchestra of up to 140 musicians to work on selected repertoire during the school day. The sense of fulfilment that this engenders in our students is very special indeed.

Quote from Director of Music Sharon Vincent

“Nicholas Chamberlaine is now in its third year on the AWLP MiSST programme. It is a privilege to lead such an excellent well structured programme of learning that is providing so many cultural and memorable life experiences for our students. The vast majority of our students would never have had the chance to learn an orchestral instrument, let alone perform as part of a large orchestra, yet the MiSST programme enables them to do this for free. Our students enjoy their weekly music lessons and value the special opportunity they have been provided with.”

Quote from Year 9 Student

“MiSST has been an amazing opportunity for me. At my primary school we didn’t really do music at all so I just used to work out how to play tunes for myself on my piano at home. When I came to Nicholas Chamberlaine, I chose to play the Flute because I liked the way it looked and sounded. It seemed different. I can now read music really well. I really enjoy playing in the year group orchestra workshop because it gives me a sense of being part of a community, and it sounds good. Most of all though, it’s just fun!”

Quote from Head Teacher Alison Ramsay

“Nicholas Chamberlaine School has already seen the positive impact of the MiSST programme first-hand with our Year 7 and 8 students during our first two years as a MiSST school. Many of our students are disadvantaged and this programme is having a valuable influence on many aspects of their cultural experience. We are experiencing improvements in the long-term engagement of many of our students, which is having a positive effect not just on their music education but also their wider social and personal development.”
