Harris Academy Peckham

Harris Academy Peckham, South East London, joined MiSST in 2019.

There are currently over 350 students on the Andrew Lloyd Webber Programme learning violin, flute, clarinet and trumpet. This is complemented by an extensive enrichment programme and outreach activities with professional partners such as Harris Manchester College Oxford and Multistory Orchestra. The Music Department also offers instrumental provision to two Harris Federation primary schools in Peckham.

Quote from Federation Assistant Director, Rebecca Hickey

“Working with MISST has further enhanced our already successful music department, offering excellent support to allow our students to immerse themselves in classical music. Every Year 7 and Year 8 student partakes and the boost to their self-esteem, cultural capital and collaboration skills is remarkable. A super, well-organised and innovative programme ”

Quote from HAP MiSST Lead Nicky Enderby

“It’s been great working alongside MISST to expand the provision that we provide for our students. Learning an instrument encapsulates our Academy ethos of LEAP – Leadership, Enquiry, Aspiration and Perseverance – and it’s wonderful seeing all of the students walking into the Academy with their instruments.”

Quote from Year 8 Trumpet Student

“I really enjoy playing trumpet! Even though sometimes it may be hard – I never back down from a challenge and learning an instrument has helped me to build my resilience. It is really fun to play with friends and I feel more confident performing in front of people and I hope one day to perform in front of family.”
