Platanos College, Stockwell

Platanos College, Stockwell, joined the MiSST family in September 2021, with over 200 Year 7 choosing between violin and flute as their instrument.

The enthusiasm and positivity of the students meant that it was only a matter of weeks before the music department started up a MiSST Orchestra, allowing pupils who had only just started learning their instrument the opportunity to perform alongside others in new and challenging repertoire. By Christmas, members of the orchestra were able to prepare a performance of ‘Carol of the Bells’, while the full orchestra played an arrangement of Jingle Bells. Platanos College students are so excited to be taking part in the QEH concert, and we look forward to many more opportunities in the coming months and years.

Quote from Executive Head Judette Tapper

“MiSST is a wonderful opportunity for all of the pupils at Platanos College, the MiSST programme allows the pupils to engage with the arts at an even greater depth. We look forward to the wide range of opportunities and excellent outcomes for each and every pupil.”

Quote from Head Teacher Mona Taybi

“It has been wonderful to implement and embed the MiSST programme at Platanos College. Our pupils are fully engaged in their music lessons and all of the extra-curricular elements, supported by MiSST. We are very happy to be a part of the MiSST family and we look forward to the continued success of the programme as it grows.”

Quote from Head of School Angela Henry

“It has been a pleasure to watch the children display a true love of music and to see the growth and develop of the school orchestra. We are very excited to take our next step with MiSST.

Quote from Year 7 student

“I really enjoy learning the violin and taking part in the orchestra club. I am really excited about performing at the concert. I have never performed on stage before.”
