Lister Community School, Plaistow, Newham, East London joined the MiSST programme in 2013.

There are currently 900 students on the Andrew Lloyd Webber Programme learning violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone.

Keeping going online with live lessons and pre recorded lessons; double periods of music for each year group means we can run a complimentary theory/keyboard skills/listening curriculum alongside with practical; concerts every term despite covid, including some in-person performances in July 2021 and workshops with external partners.

Quote from Head of Department Rosie Brown

"Music has had a transformational effect on Lister Community School since our partnership with MiSST began in September 2013.The partnership has enabled the school to deliver a bespoke music curriculum that universally challenges and engages students. Our students are exposed to opportunities that are both creative and inspiring, enabling them to achieve excellence and raise their aspirations."

Quote from MiSST student

"We are provided with many opportunities that you wouldn't expect to get during your time at secondary school. Just the other day, I was fortunate enough to perform one of my own pieces at our school concert, along with other students. That was probably the highlight of my whole entire year. To say I was over the moon and completely thankful would be the understatement of the century"

Quote from Head Teacher Anthony Wilson

"Our vision as a school is to provide ‘a world-class education for young people in Newham’; to achieve that we need to do more than teach to the exams. The creation of the successful MiSST programme at Lister has done a great deal to move us along this road.  Our young people need confidence: we have to inspire them to believe that they can do as well as students from any other school in the country."
