OUR PARTNERS

Yehudi Menuhin School

The celebrated violinist Yehudi Menuhin founded his school in Surrey in 1963 to provide a place for musically gifted children from around the world to develop their talents to the highest level within a nurturing and stimulating academic environment, regardless of their economic background.

Today’s school provides a holistic education for 86 exceptional students aged from 8 to 19, with specialist tuition on the stringed instruments, piano and classical guitar. Our students split their time between their academic and musical studies, and are given many opportunities to perform in front of an audience. Concerts take place regularly in our own Menuhin Hall, but also in local schools, care homes and churches, carrying on Menuhin’s belief in the importance of giving back to the community.

This year the MiSST Voices Choir performed at the Yehudi Menuhin School in the final concert of their summer festival. The MiSST Music Academy will look to further this partnership in the years to come.

National Youth Orchestra

MiSST and NYO worked together this year to arrange an NYO take over day at CoLA Highbury Grove, where CoLA Highbury Grove students had workshops led by NYO students and played with 80 of their orchestra. This year we are planning to further collaborate together to bring this to other MiSST schools across the UK.

Local Music Services

MiSST currently works with local Music Services together to provide high quality music music education to our partner schools:

Bolton Music Service

Tees Valley Music Service

Warwickshire Music Service

Lincolnshire Music Service

PICO Players

This is an amateur orchestra where the criteria to join is a minimum Grade 8 standard. In 18 – 19 the orchestra came to Saturday Music School to work side by side with the students. Individuals and sections were supported before a combined performance. Members of the orchestra also talked about what their day job was. 15 members of the orchestra joined students at Radley 2019. MiSST and Pico also performed in a joint concert at Cadogan Hall in April 2019.

Outward Bound

In December 2019, 24 students and 4 staff undertook an Outward Bound Leadership Course. Students led all of the activities from getting on the right train at Euston to climbing Sheffield Pike and rowing along Ullswater in the dark. The 24 students then had defined roles at Radley. In December 2020, a further 24 students were given the opportunity to undertake this course. Outward Bound supports MiSST with bursaries for the students.
